Comments:

Went to Villanova University for a year (because Don Conrad filled my appointment to West Point.) Finally figured out how to pass the S.A.T., and headed into Beast Barracks with Bernie Ferry '58, Bill Ely, Carl Dye, Tom Pachler, John Lang, and a couple of upstarts from
'60, Barry McCaffrey and Ben Sternberg. After 22 years, I retired where I started my military service. The highlight was meeting and marrying Betsy McDonough of Dundalk, MD, and raising our two daughters. The next twenty years was spent laboring in the vineyards of higher education physical plant departments in Massachusetts, Delaware, Pennsylvania,as well as a local housing authority in Dover. The best part of retirement is watching cute little grandchildren grow under the tutelage of their Granny-Nanny.
Since February of 2009 I have been trying to hunt down classmates, and former class members who passed through the PAHS portals. Sadly, some have left us, but in the quest to locate others is the hope that we can all re-unite in San Antonio in 2014. Odds do not call for many more reunions for our group. It's time to saddle up and see Bill and Sheila ELY on their home grounds, and to see each other once again. Tink Nathan, TOD Winebrenner, LaRue Locke HOGATE are in the vicinity.

School Story:

We left Fort Bragg in late October 1956, and I "kicked and scratched" my way onto the SS United States in protest of going overseas. That tantrum didn't last long. Arrived about the same time as Carl Dye did, and we have continued a friendship through West Point and our adult years. PAHS was a most interesting experience through sports. Soccer with Bill Rountree; football with a great bunch of guys; an unwitting and unwilling basketball player because Coach Jack Rocker kicked five players off the team (and why I was recruited from P.E. class I'll never understand), and finally tennis with Bart Conmy and Bob Turner. I am grateful for the influences of so many teachers: John Hull, Joanne Weinhoff, Bill Emge, Neil Manning, Ruth Thomas, Dorothea Summers, Pierre Chandouwin. But the greatest joy is just now fomenting, in contacting old classmates and just plain catching up after so many years. San Antonio 2010 promises to be the event of a lifetime. I do have a bead on the last male unlocated member from our class: Emile William (Bill) Baker who I learn through his sister and B-I-L that he and wife Denise are in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Email has not been successful, so snail mail is next.

Happy Birthday, Bill! Hope you and Denise are not encountering too many obstacles seeing your daughter. It’s been a long Summer and Fall as we did move in early August from Dover to VeroBeach, FL. We are just about settled in to an oceanfront 2BR condo. All the best on your birthday and the year ahead.

You can bet that two of us in the picture will be swapping stories about your nefarious deeds. But in Rich’s absence, David Heath will join in. All the best to you and Denise!
