Richard Turner

James Richard Turner, 64, of New London, passed away on Sunday, July 6, 2014, at Yale-New Haven Hospital. Richard was born in Guam, on March 5, 1950, to the late Virginia Griggers and James Owen Turner. Raised in Georgia; he graduated from Griffin High School in 1968, and obtained his bachelor's degree in finance from the University of Georgia in 1972. He completed his master's degree in 1999 for computer science at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Richard proudly served for 20 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval flight officer, and retired as a lieutenant commander in 1993. As a pioneer in his field, he created computer programs used by multiple branches of the U.S. military. Richard was predeceased by wife, Vicki Elizabeth Turner.He's survived by siblings, Diann Farmer and Jeffery Turner; daughters, Sarah Elizabeth and Anissa Claire Turner; and grandchildren, Rashawn Wright, Ariana Turner, and Bianca Sinclair. He will be deeply missed.
